New Labour leader David Shearer is now considering the makeup of his front bench.
Mr Shearer won the top job in a secret ballot at a caucus meeting at Parliament on Tuesday.
He says he wants to get the portfolio mix done before the House sits on Tuesday, so MPs have time over the Christmas break to get used to their new responsibilities.
He has also indicated that New Lynn MP David Cunliffe could have a senior role. Mr Cunliffe lost the leadership vote to Mr Shearer.
