Government should support armed forces bill, say Greens

The Green Party says the Government has changed its policy on the use of armed forces overseas.

In 2009, National voted against a Green Party bill which would have made it illegal to commit New Zealand's armed forces without a resolution from the United Nations Security Council.

In Parliament last week, Defence Minister Jonathan Coleman told Green Party MP Kennedy Graham that New Zealand won't be doing anything in violation of Security Council resolutions.

Dr Graham says if that's the case, then National should have no problem supporting his bill, which he will now resubmit.
