A New Plymouth teenager found guilty of making an intimate recording of a drunken sexual encounter with a schoolgirl will be granted a discharge without conviction if he does work specified by the court.
The 19-year-old appeared in the High Court in New Plymouth today for sentencing.
The court said he would be discharged if he speaks to boys at two high schools in the city, completes a Well Stop counselling programme and pays $1000 to the service.
The charges were in relation to an encounter with a 17-year-old girl last year.
Her mother told the court how her husband wept uncontrollably when he heard what had happened to their daughter.
The woman, who is now 18, read a victim impact report saying she had been objectified and her privacy invaded, but she refused to let it ruin her life.
Earlier this month, the 19-year-old and another teen were acquitted of six other charges including rape and indecent assault.
Another friend, 19-year-old Jack Greenslade, also filmed the sex and uploaded it to a Facebook page.
He was convicted and received a community-based sentence.
