Auckland Council tries to move fish seller

6:53 pm on 19 December 2014

The Auckland Council is accused of being overly zealous in trying to move a fish seller from a prime spot in the Mangere Bridge shopping centre carpark after receiving a complaint.

Stan Vlatkovich had been selling fish there from 4.30am every Saturday for more than 50 years.

His son David Vlatkovich said the council now wanted to him move to a place that is not properly lit and unsafe.

Vu Nguge, the manager of a bakery opposite where Mr Vlatkovich currently sells his fish, says it was unfair to make him move given only one complaint was made.

The Auckland Council said it would be inappropriate for it to comment, saying it was in talks with Mr Vlatkovich's lawyer.
