A severe weather warning is in force for parts of Westland south of Harihari, due to a front which is expected to bring heavy rain.
MetService said up to 70 millimetres of rain was expected tonight and early tomorrow.
It said the heavy rain may cause rivers and streams to rise rapidly and slips and surface flooding was possible.
The front was expected to weaken as it moves north.
