A search is underway for a car which plunged into a river in Westland this afternoon.
The car was seen crashing through the Wanganui River bridge on State Highway Six about 4.30pm.
Emergency services are at the scene and a helicopter has been doing an aerial search.
A jetboat and white water team is also involved, while the police dive squad and serious crash investigators were also due to arrive.
It is not known how many people were in the car.
State Highway Six remains closed north of Harihari and the police said drivers should expect delays.
