A man's body has been found on Christchurch's New Brighton Beach following a search for a missing person.

The body is that of 42-year-old Wayne August, who was reported missing yesterday after he was seen wading into the water fully clothed about 10.30am.
The police, lifeguards, rescue helicopter and coast guard searched the area but could not find him.
A police spokesperson said Mr August's body was found on New Brighton beach about 9pm yesterday.
His death has been referred to the coroner.
