Leonard Nattrass-Berquist and Beauen Wallace-Loretz, both 17, were charged with the murder of Ihaia Gillman-Harris, who was 54.

The pair were expected to make an application for bail today at the Auckland District Court.

However, when the matter was called, Judge Russell Collins said he did not have jurisdiction to hear the case.

The pair also faced charges of robbing Mr Gillman-Harris of cash, a mobile phone and his bank card as well as taking his Range Rover.

Police said security camera footage from the Ascot Motel in Epsom showed the pair checking in with Mr Gillman-Harris on 27 December.

About an hour later, Mr Gillman-Harris went to reception to ask for help but died later in hospital from what the police described as a blunt force trauma injury to his head.
