Blaze breaks out in Auckland

Firefighters in Auckland have been battling a fire at a building that houses a food manufacturing company.

Fire broke out on the fifth floor of Weston Milling in Great South Road in Otahuhu just after 8am.

Four fire crews extinguished the flames.

The fire service said the blaze began in a dust collector.

The company makes flour and cake and bread mixes.

Fires in Taranaki and Wellington

Fire also broke out at a chicken farm in Taranaki early this morning.

The extent of damage caused by the fire in Lepperton, south of Waitara, is not yet known.

Investigations are also underway in Wellington after a serious blaze broke out last night at a meatworks in Ngauranga.

The plant was badly damaged.
