The police are investigating after a man's body was pulled from the Whanganui River early this morning.
A police spokesperson said efforts were being made to identify the man.
Local iwi had placed a rahui, or ban, on the lower section of the river below Mosquito Point, which would remain in place until tomorrow afternoon.
People were being asked not to fish or use the river for recreational purposes while the ban was in place, the spokesperson said.
A post mortem would be held at Palmerston North Hospital tomorrow.
