A German woman has been rescued after falling 20 metres down a chasm in the Fiordland National Park, in an area called The Chasm.
Sergeant Todd Hollobon, of the Te Anau police, said the woman was kneedeep in water after her plunge but she did not suffer any injuries.
What would have been a straightforward helicopter rescue was made difficult by an overhanging rock, he said.
The area where the woman fell was a short walk into a track and was a popular spot for taking photographs.
