A man charged with murder following a fatal assault in Whangarei two weeks ago has been named as the father of the victim.
Phillip James Beazley, 60, appeared in the Whangarei District Court on Monday charged with murder.
Police allege he killed his son Leonard Nigel Kingi, 25, by stabbing him in a fight at a house in the suburb of Tikipunga.
Mr Beazley was originally charged with assault and granted name suppression.
Name suppression has now lapsed and he has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance next week.
