The police have named the Chinese tourist who died in a car crash in North Canterbury last week.

Ying-Hua Zhou died last Wednesday when the car he was driving reportedly crossed the centre line and collided with a stock truck heading in the opposite direction, near the Omihi railway crossing south of Greta Valley.

The 29-year-old, who was travelling alone, was on holiday in New Zealand.

His death has been referred to the Coroner and police investigations into the crash are continuing.

A spokesperson for Mr Zhou's family said they were extremely upset and appreciated the huge support they had received from the Chinese community and Consulate, and the Canterbury Police.
