A temporary ban on the sale of synthetic cannabis and party pill products announced by the Government last year is due to be lifted later this year.

The council said its communities did not want these substances.

Its local approved products policy would control where they can be sold, including imposing requisite distances from schools.

However, legal-highs retailer Cosmic Corner said while it supported distancing businesses from sensitive sites, the proposed policy was harsher than that currently applied to liquor and tobacco outlets and was unnecessary.

35 submissions have been received by the council, 11 of which will be submitted in person today.
