Police have named the French driver killed in Bay of Plenty yesterday after swerving to avoid an object that fell from a truck.
Nathan Luc Alain Boucher, from Reze in France, had been staying in the Tauranga area since arriving in New Zealand in December.
The crash happened on State Highway 2 near Okokora Road after Mr Boucher swerved left to avoid an object that apparently fell from a truck ahead of him.
The 23-year-old lost control of his car, veered across the road and collided with another truck travelling in the opposite direction.
