Police are advising residents near Murchinson to increase security as they search for a driver they tried to catch yesterday.
The driver fled from police near Hamner Springs but was later stopped near Maruia Falls.
When the driver realised the police were waiting at the other side of a one way bridge he took off at high speed.
When the car was then stopped by road spikes he left the vehicle and ran off into the bush.
