Aircraft crashes at Tauranga Airport

6:17 pm on 10 March 2015

A light aircraft with two people on board has crashed at Tauranga Airport.

The privately-owned vintage Tiger Moth plane crash-landed nose-first on the airport's runway at about 3pm today.

The pilot and passenger on board escaped uninjured.

The incident has been reported to the Civil Aviation Authority, but its spokesperson Mike Richards said it was too early to determine the cause.

Tauranga City Council communications manager Aimee Driscoll said the plane got into difficulty while landing.

She said the plane had received only minor damage and was quickly removed from the runway.

Ms Driscoll said the crash had not caused any disruptions to flights.
