Burst Albany pipe affects 30 streets

6:22 pm on 13 March 2015

Thirty streets have been affected by a water cut in the northern Auckland suburb of Albany, with businesses and residents being asked to conserve water.

A pipe burst mid-afternoon yesterday, forcing the closure of the Westfield Albany shopping centre, along with a number of other businesses and a nearby school.

A retirement village in the area, housing 600 residents, has also been affected.

Seven tankers have been brought in to supply water to the area in the meantime.

Watercare said repair work is due to get under way from 10 pm today and supply should be restored by the morning.
