Police in Palmerston North are investigating a sexual assault in the central city early this morning.
They say an 18-year-old woman left an inner city bar shortly before 3am today and was befriended by a male who took her to George Street where the assault occured.
They say two men, who were not involved in the assault, were approached by the victim for help. The area was cordoned off while a scene examination was completed.
Police are asking for anyone who witnessed a male running from the area around that time to contact them.
