The Canterbury A&P Show is withdrawing its threat of legal action over a new sports hub.

The show has attracted more than 6000 livestock and feature competition entries.

The Nga Puna Wai Hub, including sportsfields and an athletics track, has been given the green light by the Christchurch City Council.

The show opposed the move, because it involved taking land it currently leases for carparking and grazing.

However, its chair Ben Tothill said it was now prepared to go through a consultation process with the council to secure another piece of land, instead of going to court.

He said the board has decided this would be more constructive than taking an aggressive approach.

Mr Tothill said he expected an answer on whether other land will be made available within five to eight months.
