Major repairs are complete on a bridge vital to Christchurch's seaside suburb of New Brighton.
The Bridge Street Bridge was badly damaged in the Canterbury earthquakes of 2010 and 2011.
The infrastructure rebuilding team says now the bridge deck is finished, and the lanes are wide enough, trucks will be welcome again from today.
A spokesperson said the weight restriction would be lifted, meaning heavy vehicles no longer have to take the long route to South Brighton.
Celebrations were held in South Brighton at 10am.
