One person has died in a crash on Great South Road, Ngaruawahia, north of Hamilton.
Police said a car crashed into a tree near the intersection of Havelock Road and Great South Road. There were no other occupants of the vehicle.
The Fire Service was called to the scene about 4.30am. Fire crews cut a person out of a vehicle and gave them CPR, but they died at the scene.
The road was closed in both directions.
