Two fishermen are recovering after being attacked with an axe and robbed at Leigh, north of Auckland.
Police said one of the men went for a sleep midway through the fishing trip, which was very early in the morning.
He woke up to the offender knocking on his car door.
When he got out to talk to him, the man threatened him with the axe, then robbed him.
Police said, despite handing over his property, the man was attacked and knocked out.
His friend who came to his aid was also assaulted.
