Police want to talk to anyone who may have seen a green-blue Subaru station wagon making its way to Christchurch Hospital, before 2am today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Jason Stewart said the car in question was found at an Addington address at about 10.30am today.

But he said they were still trying to find the two men who used it to drop the wounded man at the hospital.

"About 1.45 this morning two gentlemen arrived at the accident and emergency in a bluey-green Subaru Impreza and sought medical assistance for a third male inside the vehicle, once they've obtained medical support the vehicle has then left the hospital."

Mr Stewart said the 40-year-old patient, who has gang connections, is unconscious but in a stable condition, with his family at his bedside.

He said they were not making any link between the shooting, and a recent homicide at Christchurch Men's Prison.
