Three teenagers have been arrested after an attack on an elderly man in his home north of Auckland.

The police said the 79-year-old was knocked to the ground, assaulted and tied up after he answered a knock on the door of his Wellsford home yesterday evening.

They said his attackers went through his house and then stole two of his vehicles.

The man managed to free himself and get to a neighbour's house for help.

Two 16-year-olds and a 15-year-old are due to appear in the North Shore District Court today charged with kidnapping and aggravated robbery.

The police said it appeared the elderly victim had not suffered any serious injuries.
