Adam Kearns, the son of Helen Milner, also known as the Black Widow, in January pleaded guilty to possessing and selling cannabis and the unlawful possession of a firearm.

Since then he has been on electronic bail.

In the Christchurch District Court today, Judge David Saunders sentenced Kearns to eight months' home detention and 150 hours of community service.

Judge Saunders told Kearns he took into account his upbringing, his guilty pleas, his level of remorse, and the fact he has already been on electronic bail when giving the sentence.

Milner was found guilty of poisoning of her husband, Philip Nisbet, in 2009 with an overdose of an antihistamine, to which he was allergic, in order to get his $250,000 life insurance payout.

Kearns, went to the police with concerns about his stepfather's death, which led to Milner framing him by sending fake death threats to herself.

Kearns was jailed for 18 days as a result.

A judge at the time agreed Milner's behaviour was calculated and awarded Kearns $45,000 in general damages and $10,000 in exemplary damages.
