MetService is warning of deteriorating weather throughout the South Island over Anzac weekend, including heavy rain and northerly gales.
The rain is expected to arrive late today, from north-west Nelson to Fiordland.
Areas likely to be affected include the headwaters of the Otago and Canterbury lakes and rivers, and the Marlborough region.
MetService said the North Island would be hit by similar wet weather from Monday and early Tuesday in regions including Taranaki and Wellington.
