Tramper's family relieved body found

The family of a young American tramper who died in the Young Valley north of Lake Wanaka are relieved her body has been found.

Allison Willen, a 20-year-old from Ohio, was last seen on the Gillespie Pass track last Saturday.

Wanaka Police and Land Search and Rescue yesterday found her body in a river where her backpack and rain coat had earlier been found.

In a statement, Ms Willen's family said they were grateful she would be coming home.

They said they continued to feel an enormous amount of love and support from the community.

Sergeant Aaron Nicholson yesterday said he was pleased to be able to provide some comfort and closure for Ms Willen's family.

The police have referred the death to the Coroner.
