Police are investigating after a body was found in a burnt out car on the Whangamoa Saddle, between Nelson and Blenheim.
The fire service were alerted to the fire on State Highway 6 about 2pm and initially treated it as just a car fire.
But police have confirmed they have found a body in the car, which was burning about 30 metres down a bank.
The body remains in the car with a scene guard in place overnight.
