Police say family members of a man critically injured in a motorcycle crash in Opotiki this afternoon were travelling behind him at the time.
They said the man lost control of his bike and rode into a culvert on State Highway 2 and Waioeka Road.
The 74-year-old man was airlifted to hospital.
