Two people have appeared in court charged with bribery and corruption - one of whom is a former immigration official at Auckland International Airport.

The Serious Fraud Office has laid the charges against Meng Yam Lim, 64, and Kooi Leng Pan, also 64.

The allegations relate to Mr Lim when he was working as a border control officer.

He is facing four counts of corruption and bribery.

Ms Pan used to work at the airport, and knew Mr Lim, and she is facing four counts as a party to the same offences.

The Serious Fraud Office claimed that in 2013 the pair colluded to accept $26,500 from two people for immigration assistance.

It said the acceptance of bribes by public officials was a very serious issue.
