Police have arrested a man after shots were fired outside Fonterra's dairy factory near Whangarei.
They first received reports on Monday morning, about bullet holes found in a shed and tank on the Fonterra site at Kauri.
A member of the public later reported hearing shots being fired from somewhere outside the dairy factory grounds.
Police have arrested a 52-year-old man, and charged him with unlawful possession of a military-style rifle.
He is now in custody, and police said he was likely to face more charges at his next court appearance.
