A collision between a motorcycle and a horse in the Christchurch suburb of Yaldhurst has left the motorcylist with serious injuries and the horse dead.
State Highway 73 remains closed between Pound Road and Russley Road, with a detour marked.
The incident will be investigated by the Serious Crash Unit.
Police say emergency services were alerted to the crash shortly before 8.45pm.
