Trail of cash left after police chase

4:46 pm on 21 June 2015

Police say three people who robbed a south Auckland shop and then rammed a police car during a dramatic chase overnight, left a trail of cash behind them.

It was one of 10 separate pursuits of fleeing drivers over four hours overnight, in incidents from Kaitaia in the Far North to Te Awamutu in Waikato.

Inspector Willy Taylor said the pursuit in Panmure began about 1.30am today, after the robbers drove through a shop window, stealing property and cash.

During the chase they rammed a patrol car, before dumping their stolen vehicle under the Pakuranga Bridge and fleeing on foot.

"One of them attempted to evade apprehension by jumping into the estuary, another one hide inside a boat and a further one hide inside some bushes - all three were apprehended."

Mr Taylor said it was understood no one was injured in any of the chases and most of the drivers had been caught.
