Aoraki Polytechnic, CPIT may merge

8:45 pm on 23 June 2015

Aoraki Polytechnic and Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology may merge to become a new tertiary organisation, if a report proposing it is adopted.

Aoraki Polytechnic chairperson Janie Annear said it was forming ideas about what a new organisation might look like.

She said things had been tough at Aoraki and there had been financial losses.

Jenn Bestwick, who chairs the CPIT council, said if the merger went ahead, the new organisation could develop centres of excellence to provide whole-of-Canterbury teaching resources and industry-aligned applied research in specialty subject areas.

Feedback on the report is being sought, so it can be considered in July/August.
