Police suffer head injuries during arrest

Two Christchurch police officers suffered head injuries when they were allegedly assaulted last night.

Senior Sergeant Roy Appley said the officers were arresting a suspect believed to be involved in a domestic violence incident in suburban New Brighton when the man fled the address.

He was eventually arrested was in the car park of the Palms Shopping Centre in suburban Shirley.

The two officers were being treated by medical staff but it was not believed they would require ongoing medical assistance, Mr Appley said.

A 29-year-old man faces a number of charges.
