Eltham residents are considering taking civil action against Fonterra for its role in the buttermilk stench that plagued the south Taranaki town for several months.

In the Environment Court in New Plymouth today, Fonterra was found guilty of discharging odorous compounds. The company will be sentenced on 3 August.
A spokesman for the Eltham Eader Action Group, Mark Kelly, said they would be talking to lawyers about seeking compensation from the dairy company.
Mr Kelly said he had been unable to sell his house and he had suffered ongoing health issues.
"Now we have to try and find a lawyer who will act in a civil court so that we can actually get compensation. We've never had an apology from Fonterra."
Mr Kelly said the effects of the released gases have not been adequately investigated.
