The Corrections Department has opened its newly refurbished flagship community site on Auckland 's North Shore.
The Glenfield site has been in use since 2007 and employs 70 staff.
It manages 960 offenders on community based sentences such as home detention.
The $1.9 million refurbishment includes safer interview rooms, more space for programmes and training and better security.
Corrections Minister Sam Lotu-Iiga said the safety of staff and the public was a top priority.
The upgrade is part of a five year $70m nationwide renewal programme to more than two thirds of the 150 community sites, expected to be completed by 2018.
