A woman and her 12-year-old daughter have been rescued from the Poukai Ranges near Mount Taranaki today after they became stuck in icy conditions.
Police were alerted to the situation by the woman's husband who was speaking to his wife by cellphone.
They said officers sent a message to her phone, using an application that gave them her exact location, from where the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter picked them up late this afternoon.
Police said both the woman and her daughter were tired but had good quality equipment and were prepared for the conditions.
However, they advise a personal locator beacon is more reliable than a cellphone.
