Police warn of health scam in Northland

6:27 pm on 16 July 2015

Northland police are warning the public about a phone scam, by people pretending to be from Northland Health.

A Kaipara man reported a call from someone who claimed to be a contractor for the Health Board, advised him to attend an arthritis clinic, and offered to sell him some remedies.

When he asked how the caller knew his contact details - he was told it was through Northland Health.

The DHB chief Nick Chamberlain said all Northlanders should be on the alert .

He said the callers were not under contract to the DHB and the health board had not shared any patient details with them.

Police said people should hang up and call police if the fraudsters call, and never give credit card details over the phone.
