A police officer has escaped injury after colliding with a cattle beast in South Canterbury this evening.
Police in Selwyn said the patrol car had been badly damaged and the animal was dead.
Senior Sergeant Roy Appley said enquiries were underway to locate the owner, no other motorist was involved and the police were not looking for any one else in relation to the accident.
