Canterbury police are appealing for sightings of a van which was stolen then rammed into a diner and the glass doors of a petrol station.
The police say the gold coloured Nissan Largo van was stolen from the Papanui area just after 1.30am.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Anderson said three men were involved in the theft.
"Various items have allegedly been taken during the burglaries including a large quantity of cigarettes," he said.
Mr Anderson said anyone who has seen the van or have any information on the identities of the three men should contact police.
