Hawke's Bay police investigate drugs haul

7:58 pm on 27 July 2015

A weekend operation by Hawke's Bay police and the Armed Offenders Squad has netted half a million dollars of methamphetamine.

Police intercepted a car arriving in Napier at the weekend and found 560 grams of methamphetamine, and drug utensils, in the vehicle.

They said the vehicle was being used to deliver methamphetamine to Hawke's Bay and Tararua.

Two men are facing drugs charges as a result and police said more arrests were likely.

Detective Inspector Ross McKay said they thought the supply chain started in Auckland.

"Further inquiries and investigations will always continue off these," he said.

"There'll be suppliers above these targets, and then there are people that have had property stolen, and have bought and received at the Tararua end as well, so investigations will continue."
