A 16-year-old has been charged with murder, after an elderly man was found dead in his Christchurch home this morning.
Christchurch police found the man's body at his home in the suburb of Upper Riccarton about 9.30am.
Detective Inspector Tony Hill said police have now laid charges against the teenager, who was known to the victim.
"The address is being guarded and it is expected the crime scene examination will continue over the next few days," he said.
A second address is also being treated as a crime scene.
Eighteen police staff are currently working on the investigation.
