A man charged as a result of an axe attack in Upper Hutt has today admitted his involvement in the rampage.
Retimana Nicholls appeared in the High Court in Wellington earlier this afternoon and pleaded guilty to one charge of murder, two of causing grievous bodily harm, and a charge of assault.
Nicholls was supposed to go on trial next week, but has instead been remanded in custody until his sentencing next month.
