Police in Northland say two men have been charged after a serious assault on a man who was asleep in his home.
They say the men, aged 19 and 23, broke into the house in Ruawai, south of Dargaville, about 12.30am on Saturday.
Disguised and wearing gloves, police said the pair started punching the victim repeatedly and assaulted him with what was believed to be an air pistol before leaving.
The men were arrested at a nearby house, and the victim was taken to Dargaville Hospital with a suspected head injury.
The pair are due to appear in court today on charges including aggravated robbery.
