Singh pleads guilty to stabbing Auckland student

A man who fatally stabbed a student in downtown Auckland in May has pleaded guilty to murder.

Mandeep Singh wiped away tears as he made his plea in the High Court in Auckland this morning.

Parmita Rani died of her injuries after an exam at the AWI International Education Group school in Queen Street.

The 22-year-old from the Punjab region of India came to New Zealand two years ago to study.

Singh also admitted a charge of attempted murder relating to a second victim, a 22-year-old man who was also injured in the attack.

The 29-year-old will be sentenced in September.
