Seven men have been arrested after an assault on a 51-year-old Hawke's Bay man left him with extensive injuries, including the loss of an eye.

The man remains in a stable condition in Waikato Hospital.

His 29-year-old son was also treated for injuries to his arm and leg.

The police said the assaults happened after several carloads of men arrived at the victim's home at Nuhaka on Wednesday, following a dispute between two families the previous night at a party.

Those arrested face charges of causing grievous bodily harm and will appear in the Gisborne District Court on Monday.
