A 69-year-old Whangarei man is in a stable condition in hospital after being stabbed several times in the back.
Police said he was walking along Riverside Drive near a park area at 6.45pm last night when he was attacked.
They said the man could not remember what happened. Police want anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
The victim was wearing a distinctive yellow raincoat and black trousers at the time.
