A man has surrendered to police after an Armed Offenders Squad callout just south of Kerikeri.
Northland police were called at 11am today to the property near the Redwoods Cafe, off State Highway 10 south of Kerikeri, with Armed Offenders Squad members also called in to assist after reports that a man was holding a firearm.
A neighbour said the man, who is 53, lost his wife recently in a car crash. and was threatening to harm himself.

Armed Kerikeri man surrenders to AOS
Officers cordoned off the property, evacuated surrounding homes as a precaution, and began talking to the man.
They took him into custody without incident at about 3pm.
No charges have been laid at this stage.
